an update on the Boosters organization.  

Background

a new Arizona Non-Profit corporation has been formed : Basis Tucson North Boosters, Inc.

The new Boosters was formed as a member driven fund raising organization for the purposes of supporting the teachers/teaching practices and advancing the educational progress of BTN

IN addition to completing the corporate formation


  • 501(c)3 status has been granted by the IRS

  • the initial By-Laws for the new organization.


The incorporators and initial Directors for BASIS TUCSON NORTH BOOSTERS, INC. are:


  • BRIANA AVERILL - President

  • Julie Shulick - vice president

  • michael carey - treasurer

The BTN Boosters are now a member-driven non-profit organization that will be guided by a 5 person Board of Directors.

Membership is free and open to all parents/guardians of BTN students as well as any current BTN Staff or faculty.

membership simply requireS registration one time per ACADEMIC year.

THE INITIAL ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES OF EACH POSITION ARE OUTLINED IN THE BYLAWS AND WILL SUBJECT TO MODIFICATION BY THE BOARD ONCE ELECTED


the BOARD OF DIRECTORS WILL BE ELECTED AT THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE BOOSTERS TO BE HELD AT 6PM ON thursday april 27, 2017 IN THE LOWER mpr AT bASIS tUCSON nORTH.



  • All nominations must be received by 5pm PT on Thursday, April 20, 2017.


  • any person nominated will be contacted to accept the nomination prior to being added to the election ballot.


  • ANY parent OR guardian of A BTN Student IS eligible to be a Director.


  • btn faculty and staff are not allowed to be nominated or be elected to director roles.


we need nominations for five individuals who will be the guiding force for the Boosters next year!

other changes coming to the boosters in 2017/2018


Meetings

  • The Board will conduct regular Board meetings – open to everyone

  • General Member MeetingS WILL BE HELD in both the Fall and Spring.


Communications/Transparency:  the following will be posted and update on the website:  

  • By-laws and other formation documents 

  • Minutes of meetings

  • btn Boosters financial statements

  • financial reports providing revenue and expense summaries for major fundraising activities.


Committees:  Each Committee which sponsors events such as the Gala and/or dances will have a steering team which will be composed of both parents, staff and faculty.  This will give parents the opportunity to engage with and forge relationships with staff and faculty outside the academic landscape.

What’s Next?

TIME TO GET INVOLVED  – We have over 1400 parents at BTN and less than 5% of those parents are actively involved in the Boosters.


  • many parents say "they want to be involved but are too busy during the day"


  • other parents feel there are a the lack of opportunities to get involved at BTN, or a lack of access or claim the are  “not feeling a connection” to the school.


Here is an opportunity for all those parents as well as many others to make a change.   

The Boosters organization is at an inflection point.  There are a lot of ideas and opportunities that the Boosters have not previously explored. We need members and  a Board of Directors that can bring new energy and vision.  That will not happen if we as parents, especially those who have not been active up to now, do not step up, run for Board positions and lead the new Boosters to success.

This should not be a large time or resource burden for a five person Board and will make a huge impact on both the BTN community and our children’s middle and high school experiences.
